Mia and the Water 5/10/16

I think I've written before about Mia's love of the water. She's like any four year old, pools are filled with chlorinated joy. Never mind the temperature, depth, sun burns, stomach aches or blood shot eyes. Mia loves to swim.

Thank goodness for water wings. Swim supply companies have perfected the design these days. When I was a kid, our lives were in the hands of whoever was put in charge of blowing them up. Within an hour they ususally had lost some of their air. Now the pools are filled with kids wearing these wing/belt combos. These wings have provided Mia with the same freedom a car provides a teenager. She roams the pool untethered and without need of my help. They look uncomfortable but they enable her to swim freely while I read a book. We both love water wings.

Kids love to entice each other into playing together when at the pool. It's very sweet to see how outgoing some are. My heart breaks for them when Mia won't even look up when they ask her to play. She simply goes on with her business of inching along the wall, head down. One girl this morning was determined to get a reaction from her. She blocked her at every pass, doing her best to catch some eye contact. "I feel your pain kid".

A new development, Mia loves sunglasses. At the bottom of my beach bag I discovered her pair of shades from last year. The blue lenses have been severely scratched but Mia doesn't seem to mind. We took her to a movie yesterday and she insisted on wearing the glasses for the entire run of the two and a half hour film. The fact that she looks adorable matters little to her but greatly to me.
